Q. Effica is a name to reckon with in automation. What precisely is your niche? We started off in 2005 designing and manufacturing special purpose machines (SPMs) for a plethora of applications. We even developed robotized special plasma cutting systems for marking and precision cutting power transmission poles of 60 ft long. Way back in 2009 we executed a project worth Rs. 2 crores in Houston. This was a complex job involving different disciplines – mechanical, electrical, electronics, robotics, and industrial PCs. It involved handling, rotating, marking and cutting of poles where cost of error was very high. Over the…

Q. How was the year that went by for your company? The year FY2016 was good overall. In spite of GDP not growing as expected and manufacturing sectors growth was subdued, we have grown in volumes in both Consumables and Equipment. This is as a result of our reach to customer, value addition approach through technical support, strong after-sales service in higher customer satisfaction Index and many more activities. In case of consumables we have grown in spite of low business from key accounts of FY2015. This means we have reached out to more number of end users and have…
“Measurement is the first step that leads to control and eventually to improvement. If you can’t measure something, you can’t understand it. If you can’t understand it, you can’t control it. If you can’t control it, you can’t improve it.” – H. James Harrington
Proper knowledge of, and skills in, measurement techniques are required to properly construct engineering works and structures. Lack of knowledge and miscalculations can result in catastrophic events. Take, for example, the Great Kersten Blunder, in which software controlling a space probe on course for Venus used “24.5” instead of “25.4” to convert millimeters to inches.…
