Machine Tools World converses with Deepak Miglani, General Manager-Industrial Lubricants, ExxonMobil Lubricants Pvt. Ltd. to draw insights into some of the tailor-made lubricant solutions it has developed for enhancing productivity, profitability and efficiency in industrial operations to propel the country’s economic expansion. Q. What are your thoughts on Mobil and its positioning in India?
Bringing a heritage of over 150 years to India, MobilTM is well-positioned to actively enable India’s impending economic growth. As reports suggest, India is on track to become the world’s third largest economy by 2027 and industrial expansion will be a key driver. In this milieu, there is parallel growing demand in the usage of sophisticated machinery that comes with premium lubrication requirements. Here, especially, Mobil is delivering positive difference with its industry specific lubrication solutions that are tailored as per the needs of the Indian market. In turn, we are enabling productivity, profitability and efficiency in industrial operations to pivot the country’s economic expansion. We have wide interests across a range of core industries and the machine tools segment features prominently in our research, development and vision for the future.
Q. You are at the forefront of industrial lubricants. What’s your niche, and what are your product offerings to emerging markets?
The usage of correct and quality lubricants for high-profile machinery can bring a noticeable difference in both operational and cost efficiencies. This is where Mobil steps in – our niche lies in providing premium quality lubricants that avoid wear, are resistant to high temperatures, avoid machine breakdowns, and boost overall productivity. Simultaneously, we are working tirelessly towards the goal of enabling energy-efficiency in industrial performance with the use of the holistic solutions that combine the best of lubrication formulations with the most advanced service offerings. Among our products leading the energy-efficiency goal, the Mobil DTE 10 Excel™ Series anti-wear hydraulic oils are helping reduce power consumption and increase machine output. The hydraulic oils under this series help keep modern hydraulic systems cleaner for longer as compared to conventional hydraulic oils. They have been proven to boost hydraulic efficiency by up to 6 percent, which can decrease power consumption and increase system responsiveness by a significant amount*. Additionally, our services under the Mobil ServSM Lubrication Analysis (MSLA) program are helping businesses unlock their true potential with servicing performance interfaces that allow timely monitoring and course correction.
Q. You are an R&D and technology-driven company. What are the product and service innovations you have showcased for the machine shop segment?
R&D pivots the success of our company and is the guiding strategy with which we are connecting the best of global formulations with evolving customer needs in India. With a strong R&D team and a legacy of 150 years, we provide end-to-end holistic lubrication solutions to ensure ease of operations for emerging markets.
The machine shop, especially, has been a key area of focus for us as India aims to expand its manufacturing prowess. For this, we have developed a range of solutions such as the Mobil Vactra™ Oil Numbered Series that has been specifically designed to meet the requirements of accuracy, aqueous coolant separability, and equipment protection for precision machine tools. To ensure excellent performance in arduous machining operations, we have designed the Mobilcut™ Series of biostable, chlorine-free fluids that are particularly suitable for aluminum alloys used in the automotive industry.
The Mobilcut Series of metalworking fluids also offers benefits in ease of use and maintenance, excellent performance even in high pressure systems, potential to consolidate products and reduce inventories, and its natural odor enhances the workplace environment. Further, the Mobil Velocite™ Oil Numbered Series oils are premium performance products primarily designed for the lubrication of high-speed spindles in machine tools. They are also used in some critical hydraulic, circulation systems and airline oilers where the appropriate viscosity grade is selected.
Our cutting-edge smart service solutions that monitor lubrication needs and warn of related malfunction in machinery with enough time for amendment, are playing a key role in supporting industries to fulfill their business goals. For instance, through patented processes MSLA, we continue to be a leader in oil analysis technology, providing reliable predictive information, as well as recommended action steps along with on-site support from our engineers. MSLA is helping operators manage oil analysis as much as 66% faster– translating into two-thirds savings in expected time**.
Q. What are your future thrusts? And what’s your vision for ExxonMobil India?
For the near future, we remain focussed on developing holistic solutions that cater to the development of most advanced product formulations along with a wide service portfolio for dedicated maintenance and care. We are focussing on the shift from mineral-based oils to synthetics to enable optimized performance and energy-efficiency among industries and businesses. We are also, simultaneously, focussing on enabling businesses embrace IIoT and Industry 4.0 to ensure smooth and synchronized work processes. India is an exciting market for us, given the country’s focus on expanding industries with a dual focus on profitability and energy-efficiency. For the country’s industrial growth, at Mobil, we place our customers and their expectations at the pivot of all our decisions.
